Create Your Collection! Artist Book Workshop with Natia
On October 19th, the Heritage Museum of Asian Art hosted the "Create Your Collection!" Artist Book Workshop, featuring artists Natia Ser and Yue Xu. Visitors had the opportunity to explore the art of handmade bookbinding, learning a variety of traditional techniques and crafting their own unique books. Participants selected from an assortment of covers, threads, and paper to personalize their creations, resulting in beautifully individualized artist books.
This engaging workshop invited attendees to create their own "collection" using ancient Asian bookbinding and stitching methods. Inspired by the Year of the Dragon Exhibition, the event offered a hands-on experience that celebrated both the artistry and cultural heritage of traditional bookbinding. Led by experienced artists, the workshop provided step-by-step guidance, making it accessible to participants of all skill levels and family-friendly for attendees of all ages.
Through the workshop, visitors not only learned technical skills but also gained an appreciation for the historical significance of bookbinding in Asian art. The event fostered a creative and communal atmosphere, allowing participants to take home a meaningful, self-made book that connected them to the timeless tradition of handmade artistry.
