A long year deserved a looooooong celebration!
As a final grand and memorable farewell to the Year of the Dragon, the Heritage Museum of Asian Art hosted a Lunar New Year show on February 1st, 2025 with art, performances, live music, food, drinks, and fortune-telling. We entered the Year of the Snake surrounded by our community of close friends and family!
This event featured artists and art groups including Beyond This Point, Hun Hazy, Friends of the Gamelan, Lili Xie, and Q.I.U 求人不如求己.

The Heritage Museum of Asian Art Hosts a Vibrant Community Lunar New Year Celebration!
Chicago, IL — The Heritage Museum of Asian Art welcomed the community for a spectacular Lunar New Year celebration, drawing in approximately 110 attendees, with 90% experiencing the museum for the first time. The event immersed guests in a night of cultural performances, traditional fortune telling, and interactive experiences, fostering a deeper appreciation of Asian heritage.
The evening commenced at 6:00 PM with a buffet featuring Chinese and Japanese cuisine, generously sponsored by local partners. At 7:00 PM, the celebration officially began with an opening speech delivered by Museum Board Directors Johnny Zheng and Dr. Tee, State Representative Therasa Mah, Associate Executive Director Dee Lyu, and Program Manager Ji Yang.
At 7:15 PM, performances began with an immersive musical experience led by Beyond This Point, a Chicago-based percussion collective. Guests were guided through three locations in the Main Gallery, creating a dynamic and interactive atmosphere.
The night continued with a mesmerizing performance by Mongolian Fusian Duo, Hun Hazy, captivating the audience with their unique sound. many attendees, experiencing Mongolian fusion music for the first time, engaged with the artists, eager to learn more about the musical tradition.
Guests then moved to the museum's multi-purpose space, where Chicago Gamelan delivered an electrifying performance of the Gamelan, a traditional and widely celebrated form of Indonesian music. The vibrant rhythms and intricate melodies created a truly immersive experience for attendees.
Throughout the evening, from 6:00 PM to 9:00 PM guests eagerly participated in Traditional Chinese fortune telling and tarot card readings, excited to gain insight into their fortunes for the new year. In addition, a silent auction was held throughout the event, offering attendees to bid on exclusive items while supporting the museum's initiatives.
The Heritage Museum of Asian Art's Lunar New Year celebration successfully brought together the community, offering an engaging and culturally enriching experience. As the museum continues to expand its programs and outreach, it remains dedicated to fostering a deeper understanding of Asian heritage through interactive and educational events.
