Mid-Autumn Festival Gathering in Memory of Andy Hoi-Csiu Chan
Join us for an evening of food, memories, and discovery honoring Chicago artist Andy Hoi-Csiu Chan. For more than fifty years, Andy was one of the few masters of traditional Chinese painting, who has inspired hundreds of students and helped introduce Chinese painting to wider audiences.

About the event
Join the Heritage Museum of Asian Art for a special Mid-Autumn Festival gathering in memory of Chicago Chinatown artist Andy Hoi-Csiu Chan. This evening celebrates Andy’s life, art, generosity, and lasting impact on the Chinese American community.
Exhibition viewing: 5:00 - 7:00 PM
Evening program: 7:00 - 8:30 PM
Since 2025, the museum has been working closely with Andy’s family to preserve, organize, digitize, and study his extensive archive of artworks, photographs, documents, personal objects, and video recordings. Together, these materials reveal not only Andy’s artistic journey, but also a rich and often overlooked history of Chinese American art, education, and cultural life in Chicago.
Guests will enjoy foods that Andy loved during his lifetime and view a 15-minute preview of an ongoing film project rediscovering his art and life stories. The preview brings together new oral histories with archival video footage from Andy’s own collection.
The evening will also include a fundraiser to support the museum’s future archival work to ensure that Andy’s legacy, and the histories held within his archive, can be preserved, shared, and remembered by future generations.
