Learn With Us

Tour Time

Tours are available Wednesday through Sunday, with the first tour beginning at 11:00 a.m. and the last at 3:30 p.m. Total visiting time ranges from 30 minutes to 75 minutes.

Each tour begins in the reception area with an interactive presentation. If your group has specific topics of interest, please let us know in advance.

After the presentation:

  • Adult groups are free to explore the Museum at their own pace.

  • Children’s groups receive guidance from the tour guide on Museum rules, the scavenger hunt quiz, and a visit to the Museum Shop.

PK–2: Inspire Early Cultural Curiosity

Our youngest explorers can jump-start their journey into world cultures by discovering Asian artifacts up close. With the “Museum Animals Hunt” activity sheet in hand, kids will go on a playful discovery through the galleries, spotting animal motifs hidden in the collection. Along the way, they’ll sharpen their observation skills and share their discoveries in lively conversation.

 

Grades 3–5: Discover Stories Across Asia

Students become young adventurers as they explore artifacts, trace their origins, and uncover the stories behind them. With the interactive “Treasure Map of Asia,” they’ll journey across the continent—learning, connecting, and piecing together cultural treasures along the way.

Grades 6–12 (Middle & High School): Deepen Cultural Understanding

During their visit, students use a guided handout to explore Asian art styles, symbolism, and cultural context. They also examine how these traditions traveled across borders and how the immigrant experience has shaped Asian art and culture in the United States today—connecting the past to the present in meaningful ways.

College & University: Critical Perspectives on Asian Art
College students engage with the collection through a deeper investigation of Asian art styles, symbolism, and cultural context. Tours highlight not only how artistic traditions traveled across regions but also how the immigrant experience and diaspora continue to shape interpretations of Asian art in the United States. Students are encouraged to analyze objects through historical, cultural, and theoretical frameworks—making connections between ancient traditions, global exchange, and contemporary identity.

Join us for a guided journey through the rich and diverse cultures of Asia. Led by our expert guides, this tour showcases ceramics, sculptures, and artifacts from across the continent, offering stories of history, tradition, and cultural exchange.

Designed with seniors in mind, the tour moves at a relaxed and comfortable pace, with plenty of opportunities to sit and rest. Our guides provide thoughtful explanations and are always happy to answer questions. Visitors will discover how the arts of China, Japan, and other Asian regions have influenced each other over time, and will also have the chance to see and even handle select artifacts for a more hands-on experience.

The Heritage Museum of Asian Art is fully accessible, and our staff is available to assist with any special needs. Beyond the tour, the museum offers workshops and events throughout the year for those who wish to continue their learning and engagement with Asian art and culture.

The Heritage Museum of Asian Art's Entrance is on West 35th Street. Take the elevator to the third floor and turn right to the Museum Reception Desk. Accessible and standard toilets are located on the same floor. Free parking space is available next to the museum via West 35th Street.​​
